The Walmart giveth, the Walmart taketh away.
Excited SNES Classic pre-order buyers got some bad news on Wednesday in the form of an email from Walmart. Apparently, a recent blink-and-miss-it pre-order opportunity for Nintendo's upcoming mini-console was a mistake, and all orders have been cancelled.

In 2016, pre-orders for the popular NES Classic didn't come from Nintendo and were limited by third-party retailers to the point that each offering sold out in minutes.
The same has happened so far with the SNES Classic outside the U.S., but retailers in North America haven't formally opened up pre-orders yet. Walmart was the first... or so it seemed.
The only thing that's certain: pre-orders arecoming. Target confirmed that pre-orders are coming, and other retailers will likely do the same prior to the SNES Classic's Sept. 29 release. Unlucky/hopeful Walmart shoppers will just have to wait for their next opportunity and hope the pre-order stock doesn't sell out before they get to it.
I've been seeing the letter pop up in various corners of social media, and have also confirmed the cancellation with several friends who managed to put in pre-orders of their own -- including Mashable's own Kellen Beck.
