Xiaomi is launching a new foldable smartphone, the Mix Fold 2, on Aug. 11 in China.
In an announcement post on Weibo, Xiaomi hints that this is the phone that will take foldable phones into the practical era, but there are no details about its specs. The accompanying image shows little besides the fact that the phone is, indeed, foldable, and that it will benefit from Xiaomi's partnership with Leica.
This phone's predecessor, 2021's Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold, had an 8.01-inch folding display and an elongated, 6.52-inch outer display with a 27:9 ratio. Rumors say the Mi Fold 2 will have a less unusual 21:9 outer display.
The original Fold had monster specs, with a top Snapdragon CPU, a 108-megapixel camera, and 12/16GB of RAM, so it's reasonable to expect that the Mix Fold 2 will follow in those footsteps.

The launch date for the new phone is definitely notable. Motorola plans to launch its foldable Razr 2022 on the same day, and Samsung is launching its new Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold devices just one day earlier. That means we're getting at least four new foldable smartphones in the span of two days — though only Samsung's new devices will be globally available, at least initially.
