LONDON -- Nobody likes to receive a letter that's both damaged and delayed, but when it's accompanied by the following explanation -- well, there's really not much you can do to argue.

On Thursday, Reddit user scotta01 -- who appears to be from rural Exeter, UK -- shared a letter their wife had received from Royal Mail in order to explain a piece of post that arrived "in a damaged condition".

The explanation was, at the very least, a bit unexpected.

The letter went down a storm on Reddit, where it quickly reached the front page and sparked an avalanche of snail-themed puns.

When asked if the letter was "one of those r/britishproblems", scotta01 confirmed that it isn't a regular occurrence.

"First time I have ever seen anything like it," they wrote in a separate comment. "The post box was out in the middle of nowhere so maybe that had something to do with it."
